Skandha attends “Busy Babies” class!!
There are umpteen programs for toddlers to keep them engaged, we are glad we found one such program for babies! Skandha attends a program organized by our community for babies aged 6 to 15 months. It is a six weeks program and we have already enjoyed 2 sessions. There are about 10 babies in this class and 4 in the age 6-8 months. The “Busy Baby” class includes music, motor activities and social interaction with other babies. Mommies and babies sit in a big circle and the instructor (a Montessori teacher) conducts the activities. We sing rhymes, play puppet games, dance to the tunes, listen to stories and of course play with the heap of toys.
In the first session, Skandhu was sitting on my lap smiling at other babies and playing with the toys. Next class he was all mobile. He crawled the entire room exploring the toys, smiling at mommies and investigating their bags Well I had to literally run behind him and pull him back to our place Everyone there were surprised to see our little cub crawl like a pro! Needless to say I was flooded with barrage of appreciations. “Wow look at him, he is crawling so fast!”, “OMG! you say he is just 6 months old… I never seen a baby crawl this early”, “He is so strong!!”.
I was so elated hear people praising our dear boy. Being graduated from the prestigious MIT-Anna Univ, being a gold medallist, being a outstanding student I have always brought laurels to my parents. It used to give me immense pleasure to make my parents proud. Now, am relishing the happiness as a proud parent! It feels as though the almighty is asking me to relax and enjoy the heroic acts of our smarty!
Few mommies did sympathise me for having to run behind him (yup more work). Few asked me as to what we did to make him sit independently.
Mommy’s tip: From the start of 4th month, we made Skandhu sit with lots of cushions propped up. This supported sitting strengthened his back and slowly he started to sit on his own.
Well, before I forget let me tell what happened in the previous class. There is a senior kid A (15 months old). She keeps on bullying little ones. She keeps snatching others toys and the mama’s have interfere to console their babies. Skandhu was playing with his toys. Big A came near him. Skandhu didnt look at her. A snatched his toy. I was waiting to see how Skandhu would react. Skandhu just pulled his toys with ease. Big A tried to snatch the toy again with all her strength. Our little Skandhu gripped the toy very tightly and pulled the toy with his single hand. Poor A left the place and didn’t come near Skandhu. Its good to be assertive without being aggressive rite ?!
While folks in India are brooding about the scorching heat, our LO wants to play in the sun. Blame the Chicago weather! We are yet to enjoy pleasant sunny days. Skandhu loves to see his shadow and play with it. This “Shadow playing” keeps him occupied for a good 10-15 mins.
We manage to get out even in this erratic weather and enjoy outdoors! Skandhu wants to sit in his stroller and wouldn’t lie down in the car seat! He loves seeing cars (Boys!!) Its so funny to see him turn in his head and keep watching the car till it leaves his vicinity
6 month old sitting upright in his stroller!
Skandhu is becoming naughtier day by day! Ahh… cant make him sit in one place. He reminds me the lyrics “katta kair illaye kanna, unnai adika manam vallaye” from the famous song “Vaada kanna vaada” Kuttu wants to climb the bed, couch, chairs… We pad the rails of the bed with pillows but they are of no use
Skandhu crawls very well. He has explored the entire home. The other day he came to the kitchen and opened the oven tray. Phew!! my back breaks running behind this little brat
Changing his diaper is now a walloping task for me! The moment I put him down for diaper change, he flips and crawls away. Have to quickly remove the soiled diaper and put the new one. Else… our naughty boy would start crawling on his soiled diaper and then…..Eeeeeekkkkkkkkkkksss! Well I wont state the obvious…left to your imagination
